About Us
Let us take this opportunity to introduce ourselves.
We were both raised in rural areas where family, God, trust, and integrity were all very high priorities, sort of Beaver Clever households in a rural atmosphere, and were taught to appreciate wildlife and all of nature very early in life. In 1978, we were married and began raising our families and working in various American industry jobs. As a family, we never lost our love for hunting, fishing, or just being out in nature and we tried very hard to raise our kids and grandkids with the same values we were blessed to be raised with. Hats off to both of our parents!
Although we had been doing taxidermy for ourselves, family, and friends, we started Stuff It Taxidermy and began taking in customer mounts in 1995 in Mansfield, Texas. For many years, we cut it off at 25 per year. Then we started competing at the state competition and winning awards at the “professional” level always using customer mounts. We both used these competitions as learning opportunities and started incorporating what it took to win into our customer mounts. Most Taxidermists don’t do this. One fellow competitor told me once, “I don’t get paid to do this on customer mounts”. We just don’t agree!
We're both avid hunters, and spend a lot of time in the field and in deer stands. We take a lot of pictures and study wildlife to the point it has almost turned into a classroom experience. We study the animals movements, how they hold their ears in certain situations, muscle tone, how they move and react, etc. We then incorporate all of this knowledge back into our taxidermy work in an effort to provide our customers with the most realistic and life-like animal possible. These are details our customers have come to expect.
Then, we relocated to the Texas panhandle. We've grown to love it here and refuse to move. Another change we’ve made is we’ve quit limiting the number of mounts we accept. We not only continue to put in the extra time and effort it takes to hand you quality mount, we always strive to get better and take a very high level of pride in our work.
We take that same level of pride in the hunts we book. Sheila wants to understand the customer’s ideas of a great hunt and she visits with all of the outfitters she can to be certain of their passions and to be sure these are people she would want to hunt with. These little extra efforts have paid off. It is much more important for a customer to call us saying “That was an awesome hunt” than any check they could write.
You may have figured out by now, and as you get to know us, you will find we are part of the small percentage of people that really love what we do. The work, the life style it comes with, the people, just everything about it.
Its much more than a job, it’s a passion and a great life!
